Twilight is the first book in a series written by Stephenie Meyer about a clan of "vampires". No, I haven't read the books. But these alleged nosferatu aren't afraid of sunlight, aren't repelled by garlic, aren't stopped by running water and aren't turned away by crucifixes. Those aren't vampires: they are, at most, people with severe eating disorders. Anyhoo the books are wildly popular (but y'all know that already right?) and Twilight just became a hit movie.
And to think that some people say I go too far with Star Wars :-P
It's these weird, diehard fanatics that make me cringe everytime I admit that I read and enjoyed the "Twilight" series.
ReplyDeleteAs a teenage girl, whenever I mention that I read the books, people automatically assume that I'm another raving, teenybopper fangirl and they question my intelligence.
The books are by no means spectacular works of literature, but they serve their purpose fulfilling the stereotypical genre of "Teen Fiction". They make good mindless reads for when you're at the beach.
I'm really happy that you made the parallel with Star Wars fans. It reminds me that this kind of fanaticalism is by no means new, nor is it restricted to just teenagers. I hope that other people remember that.
Just as you can't judge a book by its cover, you can't always just a person by a book they read. =)
