Are more people standing up to cult leader Johnny Robertson?

It sure looks that way. I was notified earlier this week about Answering The Church of Christ, a new and rather articulate blog dedicated to taking on Robertson and his local "Church of Christ" cult (which again, has nothing to do with the mainstream Churches of Christ that most people know and respect).

To the best of my knowledge that makes at least four separate blogs - none of which are my own - that have set out to counter Robertson and his gang of ecclesiastical bullies.

(Incidentally, this coming week marks two years since Robertson posted anything new on his own blog.)

And then there's this YouTube video that was sent to me today, proclaiming Johnny Robertson to be this week's "Con-Artist for [Another] Jesus"...

I have been told that Robertson and his goons have been harassing quite a number of legitimate churches in the area lately (apparently they've got a "tent revival" or somesuch going on). Robertson's son Micah even attempted to interrupt a service at one Baptist church in Danville recently.

In the past month or so I publicly asked the following questions on another blog devoted to answering the cult. So far, no one from the local "Church of Christ" that is known for its bullying tactics has dared to answer them. So I will pose them here as well...

1. If Johnny Robertson, James Oldfield and their followers have proclaimed all other denominations are "false", then what evidence is there at all that their own "Church of Christ" is true?

2. Where is the evidence that the "Church of Christ" that Robertson and Oldfield represent is described in the Bible?

3. If no such evidence exists, then why are Robertson, Oldfield and their followers in a church that is not in the Bible?!

I've said before: I don't care what these loons choose to believe in. Because I believe that every person has the right to seek God as best he or she possibly can. But when it comes to someone (like the "Church of Chris" cult) trying to interfere with others' right to seek God and to the point that it becomes illegal harassment... then there is a problem.

And from the looks of things, a lot more people are standing up to this kind of nonsense.

And this blogger absolutely applauds it! :-)

  2. They aren't biblical. They put their faith in a church sign not in Christ.

With all due respect to your Baptist faith Chris, I personally believe Catholicism is the correct faith (not going into details though) but I feel denouncing other denominations and trying to "expose" them is stupid. Instead of fighting over differences like many "Christians" do, we should all realize we serve Christ, and we all have to work together to do his will. We should all learn to respectfully disagree with one another.

  5. The Happy Catholic, although I was baptized inside of a Baptist church, I have never identified myself as being Baptist... or any other denomination or affiliation either, for that matter.

I am only what I have been since late 1996: a follower of Christ.

And just as His grace is sufficient, so does simply trying to follow Him as best I can more than suffice :-)

That doesn't mean that I "diss" those who are affiliated with a group of fellow Christians, however. Indeed I have worshiped Christ in Baptist churches, Methodist churches, Presbyterian churches, Pentecostal churches, and even a Catholic church on one occasion.

Christ is larger than any of our earthly ideas can possibly comprehend. But I do believe that the "denominations" I have mentioned and many others, more often than not do praise Him for the right reasons. In that regard, I appreciate how Catholics maintain adoration for the wonder of Christ and the traditions of faith in Him. Pentecostals, I appreciate for how caught up in rapturous joy we should all be to some degree or another at being redeemed by Him. And etc.

I forget the URLs of the others at the moment but one that comes to mind is religiousreview.blogspot.com

  7. I have followed Chris' blog here for awhile, but have never really looked into the actions of Robertson. Having just watched the video my mind is left reeling that this man, who is obviously corrupting the gospel and teaching that we are not born into sin and apparently that salvation is based upon works, has any following at all. What a perversion and corruption of the Gospel to spew such venom. Ugh.

I am a non-denominational Christian, having always attended churches that were not affiliated with any "organized" faith like the Baptists, Methodists, etc. I do not see Chris as railing against any particular branch of The Church, but rather against an apostate man who is leading people astray. Bravo for the good fight.

If Mr Robertson does not repent and come to a TRUE faith in Christ, then he is due for an unpleasant surprise on Judgment Day. We can only hope that he will see the Light.

As for the Catholic church, I do not doubt that the saved can be found within Catholocism, but how on earth do you reconcile the completely unbiblical worship of Saints, praying to Mary, revering of the Pope, etc? All major problems in my view.

Regardless, keep up the good fight Chris.

  8. Johnny Robertson is a quack and convicted felon who only gets airtime on a tv station run by another convicted felon (Charles Roark).

That is a very good set of questions and it would be good if the Church of Christ that owns Star News would address them instead of trying to cover their own empty doctrine by attacking the real Christians around here.

  12. One of the cult members keeps writing and insisting that I do a "Bible study" with them.

    Awright...

I will gladly sit down and do a "study" with Johnny Robertson.

So long as it's understood that I'll have a Bible in one hand and a .38 in the other.

If he behaves himself, I don't think we'll have a problem. But as we're dealing with a convicted felon who's proven himself capable of violent and deadly behavior, y'all will understand that I won't be taking any chances.
