Johnny Robertson: Wrong even WHEN he's right

I haven't felt led to comment much lately about the ongoing activities of local cult leader Johnny Robertson and his personal "Church of Christ" sect (which, I need to reiterate, is nothing like the real Churches of Christ that most people have respect for). For one thing, some have passed along the observation that Robertson and his followers seem to have slacked-off on their harassing of innocent people. Maybe the cultists are finally starting to straighten up and behave themselves.

I will note that a number of people have informed me that Robertson apparently made some allusion to me during his What Does the Bible Say? broadcast - or as I call it "The Martinsville Taliban Show" - last Thursday night. Something about how I was waiting to shoot him in the street. Which is a lie and patent nonsense. I will however open fire if he ever shows up at my home and I will recommend that others give him the same dire warning, because who in their right mind wants a dangerous psychopath/pathological liar who stalks women, attempts to disrupt worship services in other congregations and levels baseless accusations of child pornography against churches showing up on their doorstep? Quite a number of folks have told me during recent weeks that they will certainly do likewise if Robertson tries to start trouble at their homes. But I digress. That's not what this post is about...

I happened to catch Robertson's broadcast tonight, and as has become the usual custom some of us had fun with a "running commentary" during the show on Facebook. Among the usual nuttiness, Robertson compared this area to Sodom and Gomorrah, and then boasted that if he were to "take it to the next level" that he would certainly be arrested (to which one poor sap called in to tell Robertson that he needs to raise "an army"). And at the moment Robertson's son Micah - is that really his son? Micah only refers to Johnny Robertson as his "brother" - is saying that Jesus Christ is NOT the same "yesterday, today and forever" (somebody show this kid Hebrews 13:8).

But now folks, I am going to do something that will no doubt positively astound everyone who has followed this blog's chronicling of Johnny Robertson and his evil cult. For the first time ever, and I am absolutely confident in saying this: tonight, I would have to say that Johnny Robertson is ALMOST correct about something!

In fact, were it not for one minor detail, I would even be man enough to admit that Robertson is perfectly in the right.

And yet, even on this, Robertson is still missing the mark bigtime.

Tonight Robertson was ranting against Jesse Duplantis, and I've heard he's been doing this for the past few weeks. A few things I have to comment about here: I do believe that miracles still happen today (something that Robertson claims is impossible). I do not believe that a real miracle is something that any sincere follower of Christ can call on God to deliver according to our own will, however.

And there has never been a miracle of God that has served to glorify anybody but God, and God alone. I've been following up on people like Benny Hinn and Jesse Duplantis for a long time, and in my opinion they are nothing but hucksters and shysters who are not far removed at all from Simon Magus: wanting to purchase with money the power of God.

For calling out Jesse Duplantis for what he obviously is, Robertson would otherwise be - I have to admit - right.

Here's where it all goes utterly, irredeemably wrong for Johnny Robertson and his followers, however. And this is the real point and purpose of this post...

However right they might be about Jesse Duplantis and anyone else in the "name it/claim it" racket, Robertson and his disciples are not motivated by the truth of Christ and earnest love of that truth and others.

Their motivation is, instead... pure hate.

That has been the motive for everything that Robertson and his cult have done.

That is but one reason why God can not and will not bless their efforts. They worship their own understanding instead of worshiping Christ for His sake. And that dark absence of Christ, His truth and His love, bears itself out in Robertson's current pursuit of Jesse Duplantis.

Robertson shouldn't even be obsessed with people like this anyway. For all the airtime that the cult buys and for even calling their shows "What Does the Bible Say?" and "A Word from the Lord", the local "Church of Christ in Name Only" does nothing to preach Christ! They don't even seem to have any real doctrine to call their own! All they possess is "we hate churches that aren't like us" and "the words 'Church of Christ' make us special, damn you to Hell!"

There is a lesson here, I believe, for any who profess to follow Christ. Because Christ and all that He is must be our sole motive for everything that we dare to do in His name.

And hatred, of any kind, has nothing to do with the name of Christ. We don't have that right. It's not given to us.

I learned a long time ago, through hard experience: if anything is done, however pure and noble it might appear or be intended to be, but with the wrong motivation, then the entire work becomes corrupted and impure. And in the end it will self-destruct.

There are people who are seeking Christ for the right reasons. When they see antics like those of Johnny Robertson - and they do realize that his motive is hatred and not love of God - then that not only drives those people away from whatever mad doctrine Robertson and his cult are preaching, but it may well drive a lot of them away from Christ entirely.

(And at this moment Micah Robertson and Mark McMinnis are spouting unbridled hatred about everyone who worships in a Baptist or Methodist church. These guys just keep proving my point.)

This is not what God has called us to do. This is not how we show Christ to the world around us that is dying without Him!

We can be as "right" as we think we can possibly be. But without Christ and His honor and glory being what drives our purpose, without the sincere love that we are called to have in our lives...

"...I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal."

-- 1st Corinthians 13:1

But then, this is no doubt all for naught. I have also learned through experience that you can never convince a hyper-legalist that we can not merit salvation or the love of Christ on our own. So it is with Robertson and his cult: bound and determined, as Jesus said in Matthew 23:15, to "travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are."

But hey, can't say that I didn't try :-)

  1. JR is gearing to do something worse. I could hear it in his voice tonight. He is a psychotic man and there is no telling what he will do. I would defend my family against him and his cult members too.

  2. "Taking it to the next level" is the last thing that Robertson should want. The man is stupid or has a deathwish, one of the other.

  3. Someone on another blog (it's hard to keep up now with how many there are dedicated entirely to countering Robertson and his cult) made an excellent point, and Robertson himself mentioned this verse during the show tonight...

That Jesus said several times, such as in Mark 6:11, that:

"And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave, as a testimony against them."

The "Church of Christ" cult is losing members, has lost a place to worship in Reidsville because this town doesn't want anything to do with them, Johnny Robertson has been threatened with arrest and has had restraining orders filed against him and his cult, and generally in spite of what they brag has been about ten years of "working" in this area, they have made no headway whatsoever!

Sounds like the Reidsville/Danville/Martinsville region is not welcoming or listening to Johnny Robertson.

So Johnny Robertson and James Oldfield (hey, the "testimony of two" even) should obey the Bible, and kick the dust from their shoes as a testimony against us, and leave us forever!

But like everything else in the Bible that they don't like (where's that "holy kiss" between them?) they'll just pick and choose to ignore this one too.

  4. I think Johnny Robertson is sick. In the head yes but now in body too. He doesn't look as good as he used to. Lot more haggard. He's lost weight. He looks 10 years older than he did last year. His voice is worse. He can't carry a full show anymore like last night. What if he's dying? Johnny may have terminal illness and try to go out like a martyr and take his enemies with him. Just like a Muslim fanatic trying to die and get 72 virgins. Johnny doesn't know if he's saved so if he's dying he'll make one last gamble to win God's good favor. What enemy would he go after most? I'd keep a pistol near me if I were you Chris. Maybe he got it in prison and its made him go insane along with his body. By the way when did Johnny show us that Osborne Baptist was doing nudity? He promised that but never did. Oh well just one more lie from Satan's dimwitted minion Johnny Robertson.

  6. I agree... that the most troubling thing about JR is the hate that seems to crawl over his every word and action. I cannot imagine what it must be like to live with that much hate and to wake up every morning clothed in that sort of distaste for anyone and everyone.

We'll see what happens but I too believe his time in this are is coming to an end.

  7. Chris I want to you to listen to me and deeply think about something.

You make several acusations toward Johny and every one else around there that are in the church of Christ. I am going to tell you how you are missing it here and you need to change and seriously reconsider your views.

    1. If you saw someone who was a sinner and not doing what the bible said but yet in there mind they thought they were doing what was right. Would it then be up to you to go to them and teach them that they were wrong like Christ did and show them love and compasion and try to get them to reconsider. Now I know you dont think Johny is showing the love of Christ but if all the denominations in that area are wrong and going to ell for what they are doing and if johny is right. Shouldnt he go to them and teach them. That is what he is doing but you sont see that. You just see how he is approaching people. He has no problem whith presenting the trruth in love. But when he trys that and it doesnt work and the people are so ignorant and wont listen then he has to come on harder with the truth and flat expose them. Chris you need to realize that by you attacking johny for what he believes your acting just like him.

    2. Chris I want to help and Johny does too. What is keeping you from visiting the church of Christ. I will tell you this. We sont believe because we have a name that makes us the church of Christ. It is what we teach. I think you have a prob;em with the holy kiss. I want you to think a sec. Your makeing a big fuss about them not doing it. You would make the same fuss if they did do it. You are leting somethng thats not even an issue become an issue. The view you have taken on it has made you a hypocrit whether you like it or not because you dont keep that command either.

    3. Chris I want you to show the love of Christ and try and help johny. I dont think you care about him or want to help him. I'm not saying he is wrong but in your eyes he is. So in your eyes or you just going to let him die. Go help him. You sit here and make alot of fuss but what are you doing in the world. If you are right and hes wrong then you would have no problem taking him down because the truth always win. Whoever is right will always come out on top if there right.

Think about some of this stuff. You can email me if you like or come check out my blog.

  8. You think Johnny Robertson preaches the "truth"?!

EVERYTHING the man has said has been practically a lie!

How do you explain Robertson's LYING about the church in Kernersville, the one that he claimed was practicing child pornography? (And since somebody mentioned him earlier, Robertson's bootlicker Charles Roark repeated that claim on television, calling it a church of "perverts".)

How do you explain Robertson's lying about Osborne Baptist Church, as someone referenced earlier?

The man is incapable of telling the truth. About anything. He lied on television last year when he claimed that I refused to shake his hand when he offered it to me. I didn't even see him anywhere nearby at the time.

Whatever Johnny Robertson might be, he is not a minister of Christ in truth and in love. Robertson only deals out falsehood and hate.

You want me to "try and help" him? Okay, fine: he need to get professional help. And quite possibly an exorcist.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Careful what you say about someone being ". . . .incapable of telling the truth . . . ." Even Satan can tell the truth when it suits his purposes, yet we know his doom is sure.

None of us are beyond the power of God to save this side of the grave, and the sooner we realize that the sooner we can get to His work in this world.

Doing His will is the ONLY way to get to heaven.

  10. The Texas Two-Steppers aka Johnny Robertson and James Oldfield are almost done with this place. Robertson won't admit how many members the Martinsville Church of Christ lost after he abused Jason Hairston and Hairston left the cult last year. Robertson won't admit too how many people have left because of all the blogs like yours and Nathan's and bondservant3's. It is a cult and they are down to not many other than Robertson and his son and Mark and Oldfield and he seems to be missing too now. I have heard there have been no baptisms in a year or more. They are throwing money away with no return on their investment. And I agree with the person who said Robertson looks sick. The religiousblogtalk commenter even confirmed it. Johnny Robertson sounds and looks like someone growing terminally ill.

  13. Chris when will you ever mature.

    1. You cant prove what he said was a lye and that he was wrong.

    2. You completly ignored what I was getting at and what I said. Instead you went off about something I wasnt even talking about.

Chris I'm tierd of messing with you so let me say it as it is. You couldnt take johny in a debate if you wanted to. You have nothing doctrinaly on him. Your weak. You hide behind a blog. You are not a christian and not going to heaven according to the bible not me. It is time you grow up and quit act like you know alot and your doing good. Your doing nothing to help or get rid of johny. Chris man just shut up and go read your bible. Thats what you need to do read and shut up for a while. You use your mouth to much and not your ears.

  14. "1. You cant prove what he said was a lye and that he was wrong."

I believe the word you are looking for is "lie" and I have proven it. I have seen the original video, in full resolution. And Robertson was not only making a horrendous fabrication for sake of his own vanity, but in the opinion of many has a very sick mind.

"2. You completly ignored what I was getting at and what I said. Instead you went off about something I wasnt even talking about."

You're the one who said I should heed Robertson's "truth". All I did was knock the foundation out from beneath that assertion. Rather destroys the rest of what you're saying, don't it?

"You couldnt take johny in a debate if you wanted to."

Well, he was the one who called me out. And he wouldn't debate me. I didn't want to debate him then, but I gave him the chance he seemed to be crying out for. Ain't my fault he ran away.

"You have nothing doctrinaly on him."

Robertson doesn't even have anything doctrinally on himself.

"You are not a christian and not going to heaven according to the bible not me."

Not a problem. It's not up to you or anyone else anyway. I'm more than happy to have that settled with God Himself.

"Your doing nothing to help or get rid of johny."

I'm not out to "get rid of johny". I'm just doing my best to keep him from hurting anyone else. He and his cult can choose to believe whatever they like. But when they start harassing decent folks, there's a problem.

"Chris I'm tierd of messing with you"

Fine with me too. Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya!

Heres johny comment to you,

    from johny,

thanks for all the free publicity !
I have been sick by the way. I thank God that he has enabled my to keep going at almost full steam. I had 2 hernia operations in the last 12 months and cancer surgery on the 27th of July. Still we were able to complete 3 tent meetings in that same time frame and Danville was really great.
We handed out 16,700 hand bills and My health was so good in that tent that I participated in the door knocking almost every day. We had people come in from TX TN KY IN GA OK NC to help us.
We baptized 4 on the first sunday and 2 under the tent as well as one more the sunday the tent ended.
I was able to purchase a 36 foot trailer after the tent so I can store even more things for the next tent.
The Reidsville group moved to Eden in their owned leased building btw, in case you are in the Rville area and want to visit.

    thanks for keeping up Chris
    My health is improving daily.

That has to be Shawn Heath Paden of Royce City Church of Christ in Texas and also part of the fringe cult "Church of Christ" that's not real Churches of Christ. Royce City Church of Christ is one of the biggest sponsors of Robertson's cult here.

Instead of getting an honest and intelligent reply, I get this:

"I heard Jason Hairston finally got fed up when Johnny Robertson declared himself to be God."

A lame attempt at trying to make a joke instead of just plainly telling the truth. Is there anyone that can be honest and sincere instead of being snide that reads and posts comments on this blog? Geez...

Johnny Robertson harasses Baptist church in Bay, Arkansas

And then there was this bit of willful intimdation recently by Micah Robertson at a Baptist church in Danville, Virginia...

Micah Robertson harasses Baptist church in Danville, Virginia

Want me to also post the YouTube videos - that Johnny Robertson himself has published - of his harassing Jackie Poe and one lady so bad that she felt she had to threaten him with a gun in order to make him leave?

Want to tell us that the restraining orders filed against Robertson and the rest of the cult are just a figment of our imagination?

If these actions are not harassment, then please entertain us by telling us what harassment really is.

  39. "I'm not particularly surprised that you are writing from Batesville, Arkansas: another place where the cult has been trying its best to harass decent folks in their own places of worship."

You made the claim right here in the above quoted text that people in Batesville, AR were being "harassed". I told you that this was not occurring and when I asked you for proof to back up your charge you bring up Bay, AR & Danville, VA. It appears that your statement was indeed false as you could not provide the evidence to substantiate it. So how about you try another one?

  41. As I aforementioned, I have asked a simple question that did not pertain to Johnny Robertson, but to Jason Hairston. Instead of getting a straight answer, I get some backhanded comments about Johnny Robertson. You also claimed emphatically to have plenty of "reliable sources" that could verify that Johnny Robertson claimed to be God. When I pressed you to disclose your sources, you immediately changed the subject. Why is it that I cannot get a straight answer? All I get is babbling about "cults" and people harassing persons in their places of worship. (Which, by the way, you didn't recant saying after I showed your statement to be untrue.) Again, how does all this pertain to the original question about Jason Hairston? Enlighten me please.

  43. "Jason Hairston left because of Johnny Robertson. Two people now at least have told you that. Why won't you accept that?"

Because the two people that told me this claimed it was because Johnny Robertson said he was God. In fact, Chris went so far as to say he had plenty of "reliable sources" that could verify this information. I called him out on that claim and he conveniently changed the subject, trying to instead discredit me.

"Chris, this Paul person is like every other member of the cult. Their belief is, join us or we will destroy you."

  48. To understand Johnny you must understand his past!

He was abandoned by his father at the age of 12, his father was counciled oddly enough by a fellow CoCer who told him it was a sin not to love his wife and a sin to leave so that either way he was sinning, so he left.

Johnny tagged that as false teaching and transferred his anger to the denominational churches he sees as teaching falsely.

The Bible describes this as a bitter root, that we should be careful lest a bitter root spring up and defile many.

Thus what you are seeing is a man blinded by his anger towards his father who is defiling many in the process, Mark for instance now is so angry about the loss of his Job that he wishfully stated that those who fired him would go to hell for their actions one day. He seemed pleased at the possibility and thus he also carries a bitter root with him.

The question is will we allow this bitterness to infect us also, if it does we also will be blinded to God's love and his mercy and will be turned over to the tormentors as the wicked servant was when not forgiving the debt of another servant.

So while you contest this, please please please make sure that you do not allow it to harden your hearts lest you fall into the same trap that Johnny is currently in and dragging his followers with him.

    God Bless!

  49. Sounds like Johnny Robertson can't get over his daddy leaving him.

He thinks he's a big man but the only thing Robertson is is a scared little boy who's been controled and used by others all his life.

Robertson was used by a gang to commit robbery and when he got out of prison he started being used by a cult.

Johnny Robertson isn't a real man. He's a slave who abuses others because he likes being abused by others.
