That's the Antarctic research camp that the SwedesNorwegians have, before they make their icy discovery and all hell breaks loose. The prequel (scripted by Ronald D. Moore, the mastermind behind the revamped Battlestar Galactica) is gonna show us what happened at the SwedishNorwegian base that made it as bad as MacReady and Copper found it (i.e. mass suicide, burnt corpses, etc.)
As John Carpenter's The Thing is on my personal short list of all-time greatest movies I am going to remain cautiously optimistic about this prequel project, but optimistic all the same. I trust Ronald D. Moore and his respect for the material, I like how the CGI is going to be kept to a minimum and I very much appreciate how they're getting authentic SwedesNorwegians for most of the roles. And now looking at this photo, my hopes have gone up even more.
I'm much, much happier to hear it's a prequel. A remake would have had a hard time topping the atmosphere and effects of the original!
ReplyDeleteI saw The Thing way back in 1982 when it was originally released. It was my birthday and my uncle asked me what I wanted for my birthday. I told him I wanted to see 2 movies: Poltergeist and The Thing.
ReplyDeleteHe took my to see Poltergeist first. Near the end of the movie, he couldnt stand the gory effects anymore and went to the lobby to wait for the movie to end. Next, that same day, he took me to see The Thing in a movie theater near his apartment. If the gory effects in Poltergeist bothered him, you can imagine how the gory effects of The Thing affected him! He went to the bathroom, presumably to throw up, then came back and told me that he was going to his apartment to rest and would pick me up after the movie ended. Which he did.
I'm not too sure about a prequel for The Thing. You know how often sequels, or prequels often pale in comparison to the original.
