Barney Miller premiered fifty years ago today, January 23rd, 1975. This is definitely high up on my list of most favorite television series ever.
Here's one of my favorite episode, "Hash". This is the one when most of the detectives get stoned from eating cannabis-laced brownies...

Barney Miller is a show I can watch forever. My favorite character was Dietrich. I liked Nick too.
Dietrich is a favorite of mine too. I also like Harris. Ron Glass really defied some typecasting of the period with that role. And Harris was a writer also.
One of my favorite episodes was the atomic bomb one. That actually might have been a workable a-bomb, if the goal was to crush plutonium into critical mass with explosives packed in around the material.
I've heard that Barney Miller is still popular among the law enforcement community. It's said to quite accurately depict the kind of people that officers encounter on a regular basis.
A very amazing show that has earned its place among the best of American television series. One that is still enjoyed today. I imagine Hal Linden and Max Gail were very happy this past week to see it reach its fiftieth anniversary.
