EDIT 5:22 p.m. EST 11/18/2010: I am not going to repost the original text that was here. But increasingly, I am being led to post something about what I have gone through. Maybe - just maybe - God might use it to spare others the grief that I have gone through and that I have put too many other people through. In my last post (which really was meant to...

A brief glimpse into the life of Chris and Lisa
Right now TNT is running Titanic. I was just telling Lisa how I saw that movie on the day after it came out, and how these teenage girls were leaving the theater in tears before the show we were going into started. I told the ladies in line with me then "Wow, must be pretty powerful." And then those ladies were in tears as we were leaving the theater.Me? I cried once during Titanic. It was during the first time we see the ship going full-speed...

Wii are family: The things I do for the women in my life
It's now almost 2 weeks since Christmas, and Lisa is happily playing her new Nintendo Wii.Yes folks, we have a Wii. And my sister does too!How did it happen? The Thursday night before Christmas, I went to a GameStop store in Greensboro, where they were due to begin selling vouchers the next day for the Wii (which might have been the hottest item of Christmas 2007). The plan was that you buy the voucher, and your Wii comes in on January 25th. ...

We saw TRANSFORMERS in glorious IMAX at the Exploris!

Yesterday was the premiere of Transformers in the IMAX format. The allure of watching the Autobots and Decepticons hash it out on what I call "the big-a$$ screen" was too much to pass up, so on Tuesday Lisa and I ordered our tickets for last night's 7 p.m. show at the IMAX Theater at Exploris in downtown Raleigh. But this really is the kind of thing best shared with friends...

The Star Wars classroom at Monroeton Elementary School

It all started a little over a month ago, and the very strange tale of how we wound up with a life-sized statue of Yoda in our home. Bear in mind that Brian Hodges wanted it to go in his new office at Mercer University and since he's teaching cello, he was going to replace Yoda's lightsaber blade with a cello bow. But he didn't have enough room and so Yoda came back to North...

1000 MILES TO GRACELAND: Our honeymoon pilgrimage to Memphis

We celebrate many birthdays. But to the best of my knowledge there are only two people that the western world takes time out to commemorate the deaths of: Jesus Christ, and Elvis Presley. Curious, that...So today is the 30th anniversary of the death of Elvis. Which a lot of folks no doubt are going to be remembering in various ways. Here's mine: the story of how Lisa and...

We've got HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS
That's one odd way of celebrating a fifth anniversary ...Lisa and I went to Carrabba's on High Point Road in Greensboro for dinner at about 8, and then after that we went on to Borders further down the road. I got to purchase Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows about 35 minutes after the book went on sale.We just got home. The first thing I did was make an annoying crank call to certain friends in Bellingham, Washington to let them know that us...

NOW she FINALLY thinks it's pretty neat!
In the lead-up to the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows this Friday at midnight, Lisa and I started last night watching all of the Harry Potter movies, beginning with Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone. Tonight we spent over two hours watching Chamber of Secrets. And now, only now, is Lisa appreciating something really cool that I did for her five years ago!!It was about two months before the wedding. She was doing her final exams...

Portraits of my girl and me

Back in November, a few weeks after the election, Lisa and I had some formal portrait photos made: the first since our engagement pics a few years ago. We've had these all this time but our scanner was broken and it wasn't until this past week that we got another one.Anyhoo, here's Lisa and me...
