Final trailer for I AM LEGEND

This is one of two posts that I'll probably be making today. The other will hopefully share some good news. Otherwise, I'm still trying to take a break from blogging.

The final trailer for I Am Legend hit the Internets yesterday...

This is an amazing trailer! And it's really starting to look as if they stayed true to the spirit of the book. Love the music in this trailer: I don't know if that's some of James Newton Howard's score but it evokes a lot of the same feeling as Ron Grainer's music from The Omega Man (which was also based on Richard Matheson's novel I Am Legend). And Will Smith here, looks like he's hitting on all the right cylinders as Robert Neville. I'll admit to being a bit taken aback when I heard that Smith was playing Neville (I'll always wonder how Arnold Schwarzenegger would have done with the role) but right now, this looks like it could be one of Smith's best films ever.

NATIONAL TREASURE: BOOK OF SECRETS trailer is online

Actually it's been online for about 2 weeks now but it somehow didn't show up on my radar until this morning...

Mash down here for the trailer for National Treasure: Book of Secrets. I absolutely loved the first movie: it was like historical pornography. This new film is said to have Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicolas Cage) wound up in a plot involving the Lincoln assassination, the 18 missing pages from the diary of John Wilkes Booth, and a sinister secret in the Gates family history. Diane Kruger, Jon Voight, Justin Bartha and Harvey Keitel return from the original, and will be joined by Helen Mirren and Ed Harris. It comes out on December 21st.

First trailer for I AM LEGEND

I Am Legend by Richard Matheson is one of the most haunting novels that I've ever read. The project to make a modern-day film adaptation of it (it's been turned into a movie twice already, the last one being The Omega Man with Charlton Heston) is something that's been simmering for over ten years now: yeah I still remember the days when Ridley Scott was going to make this with Arnold Schwarzenegger. It finally comes out this December, with Will Smith as Robert Neville.

And, I've no sense this early on about how faithful this movie will be to the spirit of the book... but I think it might have some promise. The first trailer certainly impresses. There is one shot that is one of the flat-out coolest that I've ever seen in a movie... or at least the trailer for one.

EDIT 4:38 a.m. EST: Pray for the last man on Earth... because he's not alone. Here's the first 10 minutes of The Omega Man, with Charlton Heston as Neville (the role Smith will have in I Am Legend). By the way, this movie's awesome soundtrack was composed by Ron Grainer: the man who also created the immortal theme music for Doctor Who.

THE GOLDEN COMPASS trailer arrives

I have no idea what this is supposed to be. It looks like The Chronicles of Narnia meets The Dark Tower meets the Bolshevik Revolution. Maybe someone can explain it and tell me if it's something worth keeping an eye on. In the meantime mash down here to watch The Golden Compass trailer in Quicktime.

TRANSFORMERS trailer... Flash style!

Don't have Quicktime handily installed on whatever 'puter you're on? Here's the new Transformers trailer (found on Michael Bay's website):

And here's the original link to the Quicktime version on Yahoo!

The more I watch this trailer, the more stoked I'm getting to see this movie. I keep thinking about how much I started looking forward to Independence Day after that now-legendary commercial during the 1996 Super Bowl. Transformers is going to be that kind of outrageous good fun too, I hope.

Something also that I first realized with the movie's teaser, and this trailer reinforces the notion for me, that I hadn't thought of ever since the Transformers hit the scene in 1984: the Transformers are not "robots". They are living alien organisms from a world far removed from Earth. They just happen to be living organisms that are composed of metal and not carbon molecules. And that gives them some mechanical attributes and abilities, but otherwise these are things with a spark of conscience. The Transformers, at their best, are characters with souls. And it looks like this movie is going to tap into that (I hope so anyway).

TRANSFORMERS trailer hits Yahoo!

In spite of the problems that I've heard this movie has had/will have, I must say that this trailer rocks the house. 'Course, I've seen plenty of awesome trailers for movies that when they finally arrived in theaters, were total letdowns (I would even say that the "teaser" a year ago for Spider-Man 3 promised a lot more than what that movie actually yielded). So this could go either way... but for what it's worth, I really am hoping to be more than pleasantly surprised with Transformers. Watching this tidbit of it does give me a feeling of some optimism (or should that be "Optimus"? :-).
