As announced a few weeks ago, The Knight Shift is undergoing some major renovation/rejuvenation/regeneration. If this site (and that IS what this is now, a full-bore website with real hosting) looks a bit wonky at times fret not! It is just I, your friend and humble narrator, tinkering on the other side of your screen. It seems that my basic HTML skills are as sharp as ever, I have lost nothing at all in the three decades since I first learned how to make web pages. But I’ve never used WordPress until now and there’s something of a learning curve. I wound up asking ChatGPT for themes appropriate for a personal blog, and it listed a few possibilities. This theme you’re currently looking at is MorningTime and it’s being a real pleasure to build with it.

And just for old time’s sake, here is the “weird spinning head of ...

Take this for what it’s worth folks…

I am starting to hear, from “the little birds”, that there are allegations of some voting fraud that took place with this past week’s election.

There are at least a couple of “conspiracy theories” that I’ve been told about since yesterday. To be honest I’m surprised that there haven’t been more than those few by now. But it’s still early so far as these sorts of things go.

One statistic that I have seen a few times in the past twelve hours or so: the number of votes that Republican House of Representatives candidates received during the last mid-term election in 2022, 54.2 million, is close to the 55.6 million that Republican candidates received this year.

The Democratic candidates for the House in 2022 got 51.3 million. This year the votes for the Dems in the House soared to 70.4 million… almost TWENTY ...

Heh, funny. On the way to my job last night I reflected on how it’s been almost a year since the final season of Stranger Things dropped on Netflix. And I found myself wondering if there would ever be anything more of that franchise to enjoy. I’ve pretty much written off getting to see Stranger Things: The First Shadow, unless it gets a touring show (or a broadcast adaptation, c’mon Netflix we know you filmed material from it).

Well, today being Stranger Things Day – the anniversary of Will Byers first getting taken into the Upside Down – the Duffer Brothers let us know that they are far from done with that particular universe and indeed it looks like it’s set to grow even more.

Behold the reveal teaser for Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure…

GeekTyrant has a bit more about Other Worlds, which with its ...

The website American Thinker has published a new article by Yours Truly this morning. “Congratulations Democrats. Now What Do You Do?” is going to be pretty timely, I believe. The Democrats indeed unleashed blue fury upon this country two days ago. But what do they really think they are going to do with all that political power? Because for the past decade the Democratic Party in these United States has been known for its hatred of Donald Trump and his supporters more than anything else. Does anyone seriously believe that’s going to translate into wise government?

From the article:

The Democrats have finally achieved the wins they lusted so much to have. Now they have to produce something of substance. But hatred of political enemies is not the basis of a successful political agenda. Yet hate for Trump and conservatives in general is what the Democrats absolutely must abandon now.

Today is Election Day here in the United States. As it’s often being called, “the mid-terms”. Because it’s coming at the halfway point in the four-year term of the president.

I’ve never liked calling these elections “mid-terms”. Every election is supposed to be of grave import, not just those that might swing political power away from or (more rarely) toward whoever the President of the United States is. But for most of this country’s history we have made the president the focal point of American temporal presence. The person most empowered to define the country’s identity. And barring some drastic dislodgment from so-called conventional wisdom, that does not look to change anytime soon.

I’ve been asked quite a few times about what I think about this year’s elections. That I’m in South Carolina has made some especially interested, given the U.S. Senate race here.

What do I think is going ...

To everyone who has sent email about this:

I was made aware of the situation earlier today, concerning the charges that have been brought up against a particular figure in the Martinsville, Virginia region (which has overlap with that of Reidsville, North Carolina).

Over the past few decades this person has been mentioned in a number of posts on this site. This person and I have some history.

So here is what I have to say about this development:

We need to let due process run its course. So far as this situation goes these are formal charges. Many people have been charged with crimes only to be found not guilty beyond any doubt. This person should be deemed innocent before proven guilty.

That being said, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if the charges are substantiated.

I stand by my offer. I will come back to Reidsville if someone ...

I used to watch the Super Bowls for two reasons no matter who is playing: the commercials and the halftime shows.

Having the commercials release on YouTube a few days before the game has ended that particular anticipation for the most part. I can’t stave off the temptation. Especially for the spots of upcoming movies even if those films are ten whole months out.

That leaves the halftime show. A spectacle that has long entertained folks regardless of the competing teams.

But let’s face it: the halftime shows of the past several years have been too bereft of real engaging character. They’ve become too homogenized. Too boring.

And it’s all Jay-Z‘s fault.

The rapper and his agency Roc Nation have been contracted by the National Football League since 2019 to produce the halftime shows. And ever since then they have predominantly featured performers from the rap music community. Not ...

Was on the road early this morning when this song came on the Nineties station on satellite radio.  And now I can’t get it out of my head just like 35 years ago!

“I’m Too Sexy” by Right Said Fred got a LOT of airplay during my high school senior year.  Were we supposed to take this song seriously or was it meant to be a gag?  I’ve no idea and I don’t think anyone else does either but back in the day I could do a spot-on rendition of it 😛...
